Journal Entry #9

Chapter 9
Gatzby dies and no one cares, except for Nick who being the only one who was close to Gatzby became in charge of his funeral. Why this happened who knows, perhaps it was because of the certain crowd that Gatzby hung out with and no one really cared about his death or maybe it was more. When his funeral came no one went only Nick Gatzby's father and the man with the lunar spectacles why only he came I dont know perhaps he was symbolic in a way what way I don't know.

Journal #8

How does Nick’s statement “You’re worth the whole bunch put together” show a change in Nick from the beginning of the novel?
Because in the beginning he despises what he stands for but now he learns to value him more of a friend. In a way he loves him but he also hates him showing that he is no longer one sided and is more controversial in his perspective of Gatsby.

Journal #7

In chapter 7 we learn more about intimacy between Gatsby and Daisy and how they are in love, and how this creates a spasm of drama inside the group of Nicks. For instance Gatsby and Daisy we're not very secretive about there whole love affair and Tom being as stupid as he was miraculously found out. Which then led to this whole argument between the group where Tom pointed out all the flaws of Gatsby and made him look like a bad man in Daisy eyes. Daisy was troubled and wanted to go which led to the killing of Mrs. Wilson.

Journal Entry #6

1. How truthful was Gatsby when he first relayed the story of his life to Nick? Why do we get the whole story now?

Perhaps to many readers finding out that a favorite character lied is the most devastating thing, Gatsby's life story was completely and utterly different than what he had relayed. What was even worse was that a reporter was the one who uncovered Gatsby's true life was a reporter. Why we get the whole story now? I honestly have no clue perhaps it was to lead to a suspension or a climax or maybe to put in mixed emotions into Nick. The true reason I have yet to find out maybe its for future passages.

Journal Entry #4&5

Why does Gatsby tell Nick about his life? Do you believe Gatsby? Does Nick believe Gatsby?

Cuase he doesnt want Nick to think badly of him he also wants to make he think that he is a good so Nick can introduce Gatsby to Daisy. At first Nick disbelieves gatsby because of the look on his face when he said he went to Oxford. But he starts to believe as he takes out souvenirs from his story. Such as Montenegro's medal, rubies and a picture of his time in Oxford. I honestly believe him after all of his stash of pocket souvenirs but I wonder if he planned it to meet Daisy?

Why does Gatsby deliver so many goods and services to Nick’s house?

He delivers these goods because Daisy is coming over and apparently they were lovers before the war so he wants to make a good impression and have Daisy fall in love with him again. I believed that he had planned this all from the beginning and intended to convince Nick so he could meet Daisy and make an impression. Though to my honest opinion he made a very bad first impression because he was very nervous but later on things went smoothly.

The Great Gatsby

Is Nick an honest narrator?

What is Honesty? Honesty is being true in words and in oneself. Though is that what Nick is? At the end of chapter three he says he is one of the fewest honest people he knows. Which implores the question if he is honest, in my understanding he is honest in his words but not to himself. He says that he does not love Jordan Baker but that is an obvious lie for there are many hints that he in a way likes her more than a friend. There are many passages in chapter three that states that he is slightly jealous of other man, in other chapters he is clearly not honest with his opinion between the affair Tom is clearly having and also his opinion on his cousin Daisy. I must say that he is honest but not in his opinions and thoughts.

Journal Entry # 2

The Great Gatsby

What Does Nick learn about Tom?
In chapter two of this book Nick learns about the women that Tom is having an affair with her name is Mrs. Wilson and Tom takes her away from her husband so they can get away. Nick learns that he is playing both Mrs. Wilson and Daisy because he says that Daisy is Catholic who don't believe in divorces. Which Nick says is a lie because Daisy has never been Catholic, he also learns that Tom is abusive because he backhands Mrs. Wilson when she kept repeating Daisy's name over and over again when he didn't want to speak of her in front of him.

The Great Gatsby

Character Analysis

Tom-Daisy's Husband
The first description given about Tom was what Nick remembered of him, being a football player in New Haven and being from a family of enormous wealth. Though as the visit goes on they show that Tom is a racist man that believes that Nordics are superior above all and that he was an obnoxious pathetic man who did not know what he was speaking of and most of all that he was having an affair with a women from New York

Daisy-Toms Wife
Daisy is Nick's second cousin once removed and also Tom's wife that has a child that is a girl. Daisy seems to be a women that tries to act like everything is all right even though everything isn't. She even knows about the affair but does nothing about it.

Jordan
Is an attractive women, who at first Nick is intimidated by but later on has a thing for her. She is an athlete and a gossip queen who told Nick all the goings on such as the affair.

Nick- is the narrator of the book
in chapter one Nick seems to be a normal man with a family history that most immagrants would commonly have. As he visited his second cousin once removed, Daisy, he seemed as if he was not easily impressed with money but at least marveled at the sight of Daisy's and Tom's mansion. During his visit there he started feeling slightly uneasy because of the slight gossip of Tom having an affair with a women from New York, which was brought up when the phone rang causing an awkward atmosphere around Daisy, Tom and Jordan.

Gatsby-Nicks neighbor
Gatsby was not introduced very much in this chapter just that he was Nick's neighbor and that he also like to take walks at night. Who was also a great man in the eyes of Nick.
